Attempt No. 2 with following Bob Ross videos. I call this one “Walking By The River On An Overcast Day and Gosh Darn It Where Are My Glasses?” I have to say I am really surprised that the water and waterfall turned out, because for 95% of the process it looked like a blue smear.
That being said I am finding out that I can appreciate my attempts much more when I don’t see what they are supposed to actually look like. Somehow he can mix together five different versions of almost black looking paint and yet make a bright cheery scene.
The unfortunate part is that I am finding this isn’t really going to help me learn how to draw backgrounds, as paint and pencil are two completely different things. I am sure this conclusion was blatantly obvious to everyone else, but I had to learn someway.
The other unfortunate part is that I am now out of mini canvases, so that is the end of that experimentation for some time. Oh well, it was interesting while it lasted!
Francis Bacon: A Brush With Violence (2017)
Francis Bacon was the loudest, rudest, drunkest, most sought-after British artist of the 20th century. Twenty-five years after his death, his canvases regularly exceed £40million at auction. Bacon’s appeal is rooted in his notoriety - a candid image he presented of himself as Roaring Boy, Lord of Misrule and Conveyor of Artistic Violence. This was true enough, but only part of the truth. He carefully cultivated the facade, protecting the complex and haunted man behind the myth. In this unique, compelling film, those who knew him speak freely, some for the first time, to reveal the many mysteries of Francis Bacon.
