A blurb.. no editing we post like men
The drive back to camp was quiet. The fact that they all almost had their brains sucked out and eaten as part of a four-course meal might have had something to do with it. Though, Tally noticed, Ava was particularly quite. She would even go as far to say that Ava was miffed, perhaps. Her answers to anything were clipped or sarcastic, which was kind of fun, considering Ava's bubblegum personality. Off-putting, maybe, but kind of fun.
At a rest stop along the journey back from Kansas, when everyone was bunkered down or asleep, Tally saw Ava get up out of her bed, and walk out of the room. Jasper got up to go follow, but Tally stood up.
"Give me a shot," she said quietly, before shrugging on her jacket. Jasper nodded before sinking back down in his chair.
Ava wasn't hard to trail. Her perfume wafted through the rest stop, and Tally found her sitting on a bench outside the lobby. The redhead took a seat beside her, and stared at the parking lot. The stars weren't visible with the light pollution of the rest stop neon signs, so she settled for studying how crappy of a park job all of the cars were in.
Tally considered her move. She wasn't the best with emotions; her's or anyone's, for that matter. She also has known Ava for like two months. Why would she want to bear her soul to Tally? Did Tally even want her to?
So, to avoid making a decision on the matter, Tally stayed silent.
The two of them stayed like that for a moment, in the crisp Indiana night air.
"What?" Ava finally asked.
Tally shrugged. "I dunno." She answered truthfully. "Just seemed like you needed a person who hasn't known you as long as the others"
Ava released a sharp breath. "Why did you get a pass?" She asked, looking at Tally.
"What do you mean?"
"In the hospital," Ava continued. "Its clear you had something help you out to get out of the cell. Nobody yelled at you. Nobody said 'No, Tally, don't be stupid.' Every time I try and help using my powers, everyone always thinks I'm the bad guy for wanting to. How come you got a pass? Nobody even confronted you about it afterwards. It's bullshit." She huffed, crossing her arms.
Again, Tally shrugged. "Well I did cut of the zoom call before anyone could, so,"
Ava scoffed. "Shut up. You know what I mean."
It was Tally's turn to sigh. "Listen," she said, shoving her hands in her jacket pockets. "You don't know me, but... I made my choice a long time ago." She paused. "I don't regret it, don't get me wrong, I did what I had to do." She paused again, searching for the words. "But I also didn't have anyone looking out for me. I was alone, and I didn't have anyone to say they were concerned for me or the decisions I was making," Tally looked at Ava, before standing. "Its so clear that they care about you and want you to be okay. You're clearly so important to them. Make your own decisions Ava, absolutely, but also know you got people who want whatts best for you."
Tally shrugged. "And you can always tell them to fuck off and do what you want, too," she amended. "Its your call."
Ava considered her words and nodded, still staring out at the parking lot.
"Anyway, that's enough soul searching for me tonight, I'm going to bed." Tally bid farewell.
As she walked back to the room, Tally heard Penny's voice.
-what's your angle here, dude-
Tally shrugged as she curled back up on the couch she was occupying. "No angle this time," Tally replied in her mind. "Just supporting, I guess."
Hmm was right.
