Been catching a lot of painted turtles in search for fish. Should’ve kept him, along with 3 others and hope a rat is nearby to create an elite ninja team 🥷. Cowabunga!! -- https://ift.tt/3lkyWwL

Parents are moving up here in the next couple of months. I’m trying to help them with travel plans and the like. It looks like hiring someone to drive their car to get them here is the best way to do it. It means nobody, including the cats, has to fly, and I’m starting to get to an age where I can’t do that kind of driving all myself in a weekend like I could in my 20s and 30s, particularly since I’d have to get to them first and I don’t want to fly either since I don’t want to risk making them sick. Considering covid and all, this seems like the safest and sanest solution.
Once they get here I’ll finally be able to see them again, which I haven’t since just before the pandemic.
Plot holes and where to find them
Life has a habit of getting in the way of story-writing so The Search for the Crimson Lady has had to take second place lately. But I have to admit I’ve also encountered an obstacle or two in my plot. I’ve reached a point in the story where matters are coming to a head. You might recall a few weeks ago I shared one of the opening scenes where we learn a little about the Crimson Lady’s history.…

my dad just wrote an email and it looks like it’s going downhill with my parents’ cat.
we got her as a five week old kitten from the shelter because she’d been found at 4 weeks old without her mother. it was my last school summer holidays and my parents left soon after for two weeks. so as it turned out that she didn’t actually eat solid food and was severely ill because the shelter vet had given her a live vaccine which she was too young to handle, it fell to me and my brother to take her to the vet and bottle raise her.
i spent so much time on the sofa with this tiny kitten in my lap because every time i tried to put her to the side and get up, she would do this sorrowful meeeep so i just couldn’t leave. so yeah, i love that cat. a lot of the time in the following years it felt like she was the only nice being i had in that house.
since i’ve been avoiding contact with my parents, i have seen her less and less and then not at all in years. that was kinda the price to pay for getting away from their toxicity. and i didn’t like leaving her there, but didn’t have any other option.
so now she’s 14, which is a decent age, but i still feel like i’ve missed out on a lot of her life.

Fun idea entirely unprompted. (BBU, Pet whump/ Box Boy Universe Topic) but I will subject you all to it anyway.
If Riley and David, both trained as Guard Dogs, ever *met* each other at the same social event:
In my version of the BBU, Guard Dogs are encouraged not to trust each other, but upon the rare occasion that they ever meet in society, they often have a weird sort of grudging mutual respect, because they know what all of them are capable of. It takes one to know one, and they know each other.
So if their owners were to be at, say the same fancy gala...
David would find Riley registering immediately as Clear Threat. He assesses everyone he sees at some level of Threat between “Ignore” and “Attack If They Even Get Close”. All his instincts would read Riley as a very obvious and professional threat. He would be keeping himself physically standing a lot closer to his Principal, and ready to move at any second.
Riley would know David was a fellow trained professional but would also conclude within the first five seconds that David will hold back in little ways where Riley usually won’t. He’d know, and be probably correct, that if it came to a fight he could take David down. He’d also know that David came to the same conclusion just as quickly- and he’d probably give David one of his smiles. The smug, slightly malicious ones without teeth, that say “Oh yeah- we both know. Don’t even try it.”
They’d end up moving around the room all night following their respective Principals but eyeing each other like two territorial predators waiting to see if the other one dares to make a move.
