So much of trauma is rooted in shame, is it any coincidence that sexual trauma is rampant in cultures that violently enforce shame around sex? Being open about sex prepares people to have the knowledge they need to empower themselves, it prevents exactly what ppl claim it causes. I THANK GOD every day my parents talked about sex like a normal part of life since I was born. They never hid it from me. They explained it plainly when I had questions. It primed me to be capable of handling it when I was (INEVITABLY) exposed to nudity and sexuality as a kid. Whether that was an intoxicated man nude in the street, or pornographic material I stumbled onto online or under a bed...I didn't need to be traumatized by that, and I wasn't because I had the information I needed to understand it.
