    project 4

This project was interesting as we were given images to base our models out of. This was also a collaborative project too so we needed to work in pairs to complete the task. Each person either had to design a character or a plinth for the scene. My partner Samantha chose to make a plinth and I decided to go with the character.

The image I chose was this underwater sea creature which kinda looked like a villain that you'd find in a power ranger series. The workshop was fairly easy as most of the work was done in zbrush, which is a software I'm very familiar with. The sculpt itself wasn't too difficult as the reference I had was clear. I didn't make the sculpt exactly like the reference image as i felt it would take too long to sculpt all the different pieces. Areas such as the hands i made into claws as i knew it would take me forever to do. Overall I think the model turned out well although I do feel that the model looks more like an alien than a sea creature.

Even though working in the software was fine, zbrush also posed a lot of challenges. One of the biggest ones was it crashing a lot. This was frustrating as I hated losing the progress I made on the sculpt. And to make things worse it would take forever to reopen my files resulting in losing a lot more time. Overall I enjoyed working on this project.

    Crit

My presentation of my work for the crit for this project. I feel the crit went well and I received good feedback from my peers. Some people responded to the drawings of the hanging shapes in a gallery and encouraged me to work this idea further to have large scal hanging shapes as an installation. I think people really responded to how the work was laid out and could see the clear progression from research to development to final ideas and contextualising the work. Georgia Bosson really like the pink ink print idea which I posted earlier with the black lines on white paper and said it would be interesting to develop this further into other colour ways and how you can develop this print onto other interiors. Over all I would say this project shows my most developed work to date as it displays my most developed skills and I’m really proud of the work I’ve created over the last three weeks. The knowledge I’ve learnt and ability to manage my time has been beneficial to me taking me into my FMP confident in my abilities.

    2020 Future Fabrics Expo

My mum is technical director at Heathcots Fabrics a textile production mill so we went to the 2020 future fabrics expo together to go look at the new companies who are creating sustainable materials which are environmentally friendly. The day consisted of talks, lectures, debates and panels all talking about the issues of climate change and the impact of the textile industry. I learnt a lot of valuebale information at this show and it had massively expanded my interest in future textiles and sustainable and ethical production. It’s as amazing to meet so many people who are either starting their own sustainable brands or helping larger companies become more environmentally friendly.

    Contextualising on the body

Here you can see how my fashion illustrations have developed from a simple sketch of the shapes on the body to then developing different prints in multiple colour ways and imagining them in different styles on the body. I’m really happy with these illustrations as fashion illustration is an area I tend to struggle with.

Heat press printing with colour transfer paper

I used colour transfer paper to heat press my shapes onto graph paper. I’m happy with these I like the shapes lines and how the ink from the line drawings transfer too back onto the paper.
