honestly there are so many bad takes on yuri just doing not even actual justice but just flat out only crime, which yes he is doing crime in his justice, but his motives are entirely pure / unselfish / impersonal. it isn’t because he doesn’t like it. his world is literally gone to hell in morality and people are dropping like flies. someone has to do something and he basically says it might as well be him. there IS NO JUSTICE in terca lumireis. even flynn admits it:
it isn’t glorification of killing people who are the scum of the earth not even human anymore by their actions. it isn’t this personal grudge against the empire who he’s seen since he was a child spit out people, kill them, throw the poor’s ashes to the winds, and see bodies rot in the streets as people starved. as he starved or gave up his food. it was that bad and will be long past his and flynn’s lifetime so i destroy on this blog the take that flynn is having to ‘put up’ with yuri’s actions when things would be morally screwed / literally screwed if yuri didn’t fight for the right thing even when the world condemns it as ‘wrong.’ yuri kills. and so do knights.
people seem to forget flynn gets where yuri comes from in the end? and knows he’s doing what he doesn’t have in him to do. aka it’s necessary and it sucks that it got to that point. that’s...kinda the point.
the don literally gives him the push yuri has been agonizing the entirety of part one until the end when he kills magistrate ragou. you can call yuri all sorts of things, have your takes, but thinking he isn’t doing something that has to be done and he just ‘doesn’t like authority’ is...wretched imo. i’ll make an actual full blown analysis of this later.
also we don’t talk about how the don literally dies by yuri’s hand by an essential seppuku / because once again, yuri took on the burden no one wanted and the consequences that come with it / weight.
