Something that happened in every relationship with a person who has long hair. For it can happen with both Renga (lanreki) or Matchablossom:
Joe: Explain to me how i found one of your fucking hairs flossing my ass?
Cherry: suck it up bitch
Reki: Langa....i found one of your hairs where the light never shines...
Reki *heart eyes*:hey Langa what was the most amazing day of your life?
Langa: Found an insect on my fries and the restaurant gave me a free family combo of hot wings, hamburguers, fries and ice cream because they said I was their best client and couldn’t loose me, so I asked for two more free family combos and was the best da-
Reki: all right, I’m breaking up with you for 15 minutes.
This is just a drafted scene from the upcoming next part of Roses Red. Not compelete, still in the outlining stage. But I liked this.
Spoilers for the fic, though some things might change by the time we reach the final draft.
Reki was different from him.
That wasn’t a new revelation by any means. Langa knew the moment they had met that Reki was as different from him as they came. He was outgoing, energetic, an extrovert full of energy and always friendly. He was loud, but always listened, and he was always itching to do something, unable to stay still for too long, unable to just passively let life go by. He was the very sun, bright and warm and invigorating. Langa just…wasn’t.
Langa was quiet, passive, he couldn’t keep up a conversation for long (except with Reki) and often had very little to say on a subject. He wasn’t socially energetic, he didn’t take the bull by the horns like Reki did and wrangle life into what he wanted. He wasn’t warm or bright.
He didn’t have dreams for the future like Reki did (Open his own skate shop with his custom made boards), or any interests outside of skateboarding like Reki did (Woodworking, engineering, drawing, building, creating) and he any plans for life, either.
In reality, they didn’t blend well. They were opposites, as different as they came. Langa doubted they would have ever became friends if it hadn’t been for skateboarding. If Langa hadn’t taken that job as Dope Sketch, if he hadn’t gained an interest in skateboarding, the two of them would still just be strangers. Classmates who didn’t know each other beyond the classroom.
Because of that, Langa couldn’t shake the nagging fear that clung to the back of his mind that one day Reki might just…lose interest. That eventually skating wasn’t going to be enough to keep his attention, his friendship. That Reki would see that Langa didn’t have much to offer in a friendship, in any kind or relationship. That he just wasn’t good enough.
Langa wasn’t good enough.
It was bound to happen, once enough time passed by and the awe of Langa’s snowboarding-born affinity for skateboarding wore off, Reki would realize that. It was a day that Langa feared.
As such, he did what he could to keep Reki’s interest. When they hung out, he tried to become involved in Reki’s interest. Reki loved woodworking, Langa spent hours in bed watching tutorials on YouTube rather than sleeping so they could talk about it. Reki liked drawing, so Langa researched some of his favorite indie artists. His favorite bands and his favorite shows.
If it was something Reki liked, then he spent all his free time at home delving into the subject so that he might impress the red-head with what he knew, so that Reki might think they had more and more shared interests, so that Reki might think he was interesting. If there was something Reki didn’t like, Langa wouldn’t like it either.
When Langa brought up woodturning during lunch one day, Reki’s eyes got a shine in them as he chatted about some of his favorite YouTube channels that did it, and lamented about how he didn’t have the tools for it and thus couldn’t do it. When Langa brought up a particular online artist and their work, Reki got excited and started talking about her style and comics.
Of course, Langa only understood the bare basics of each topic. He did his best to contribute to the conversations, but eventually he ran out of things to say. As always.
And as always, Langa cursed himself when Reki’s attention inevitably drifted to something else. To someone else.
When it became clear that Langa spending time with Adam ensured Reki’s frantic attention and focus stayed on him, Langa began drifting to Adam’s side more and more when at S. Sure, he also admired the older man and the tricks he could teach; Adam was a fucking legend after all, the God of Skating. He could teach Langa more than what anyone else could.
He wasn’t stupid, either. Langa understood that Adam only lathered him with so much attention because of his beef with Riptide. Before their beef together, Adam was always shadowing and hovering around Ren, showering them in attention and affection, proclamations of love and bouquet of roses. He hadn’t thought too much of why Adam had been so interested in Riptide, but he accepted the words and actions at face value; Adam loved Ren and wanted the whole world to know.
Sure, Adam had shown interest in Langa too, made comments about how Langa had talent, was above the rest of the skaters at S, and that he was a worthy adversary. He was touchy and intimate, but not nearly as much as he had been with Ren.
Then Langa and Riptide had their beef.
When the dust settled, the world shifted. It was as if Ren had never existed, and all that Adam cared about now was Langa. Langa who could very well be born from his own ribs, Langa who could very well be his equal, Langa who could be the one that Adam had been waiting so long for.
It was Langa now who Adam declared his love and affection for, it was Langa now who Adam presented roses to upon every meeting without fail, it was Langa for whom Adam made grand and eccentric displays of love for.
He knew he shouldn’t be taking advantage of it. He should be angry at Adam for how easily and quickly he had tossed Ren aside after one beef, he should know that the same would be done to himself if he lost, too. But Langa couldn’t.
Reki hated Adam, he worried over Langa spending time with Adam. He fussed about and clung to Langa, was always there to ‘rescue’ him from Adam, to pull him away and stick to his side with glue to keep the ‘crazy creep’ away. Always made Langa promise not to skate with him—a promise Langa always kept, no matter how often Adam asked for a beef.
So, Langa didn’t have a right to be upset with what Adam did, not when he was only using the older man.
