Bram Stoker’s Dracula | Super Nintendo
I’ve written ad nauseum about what a big deal the release of the film Bram Stoker’s Dracula was for me.
I had to sneak into a screening on opening weekend because it was rated R (I had a ticket for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York).
I can’t remember when the SNES game was released but one fine weekend I rented a Super Nintendo, the game, as well as a couple vampire movies (Dracula’s Widow and Love at First Bite — two absolute stinkers).
I’ve been reacquainted with the game for a few years (the Genesis and Game Boy ports are quite different) but it was fun playing the SNES version again today. The gameplay is smooth but Jonathan seems to glide along the platform in this version, as if doing a moonwalk. The bosses include Lucy in Vampire form, the coach driver, a dragon, various incarnations of Dracula (tech the driver too I guess). Weird omission: no mention of Mina at any point. It’s no Castlevania, but I’ve always liked it.
What keeps this game entertaining is the music. Play it with the lights out.
Sony PlayStation 2 - PS2
Even though I own it on on Genesis, I’ve always found that Bram Stoker’s Dracula port particularly unforgiving, so I splurged on a complete SNES version. It was a good call. The layout is pretty much the same, but the game is a little more on the up and up for my skill level.
Did you call becoming a puppet and working for corporations until the time to be thrown away like a broken machine " living a life in peace."?
