A Wish Too Dark and Kind review
This book is a genre blend of fantasy, mystery, and horror and it’s full of with murder, mayhem, blood, betrayals, and of course, lots of magic. M. L. Blackbird invites readers to join the colorful cast of characters as they unravel the secrets a mysterious magic-user has in store. The story is at times confusing, but I think it's done in the way of the mystery genre where readers are meant to follow along and try to figure it out for themselves alongside the characters. I didn't love it, but I do think it was intentional. This book was really interesting though. There are multiple points of view which was interesting for world-building because each character has a unique experience with magic and use different magic systems. At different points in the story, these characters explain to each other (and readers) how these magic systems work. I liked this and found it helpful. I like that the story functions as a mystery box of sorts and that's also one of the settings which I thought was fun. I truthfully didn't understand everything (and perhaps I just wasn't reading closely enough) but I found some parts a touch confusing.
The concept of this book is compelling: a strange invitation from an even stranger sender that causes several strangers to meet and must solve a mystery about how they all fit into the puzzle their host has created. Although it was not my favorite, this book is a solid blend of fantasy, mystery, and horror.
3 out of 5 stars
Knowing that Elisa is asexual kinda makes her review of hellsing and how sexless yet deep the relationships are and hearing her interpret them... is like... really profound like, i jived with it back in 2016, but like, I really GET IT now
Lol y’all can’t be saying things like this on Guest where I’m not able to reply! I’ll do it here and hope you see this 😅
So like, in order to post those separate endings I’d have to write them first - you know how time consuming that would be? I have a hard enough time as it is writing the main story lol. They’re not even all that “alternate” anyway, there are just minor details in different places that would effect the pace of Brittana coming together foreal. One way gives most of the readers what they want faster but I lose moments I was excited to write and one way has the readers waiting a little longer but I worried that I’d lose my audience despite a happy ending nearing. What I was struggling with when I published the update was trying to figure out how to tie in elements of both so that the readers are satisfied and I don’t compromise on how I want to tell my story.
That’s the hard part about writing while publishing tho. You get the readers’ input which can be really great and encouraging but it alters the way you write. When I started to come up with this story, I based it on things that I love about a love story and hoped that people out there were into it too. Most do but people also have different angst tolerances and want more of this and that and as a writer I get lost in wanting to please my audience while also staying true to the way I want things to go. Idk, any other writers out there struggle with this or have I suddenly become a people pleaser? Lol
A dead pirate is searching the ocean for Jack Sparrow to take his revenge and only the Trident of Poseidon can stop him.
As far as the franchise goes, it’s not the worst one and many of the battle scenes are entertaining and amusing enough. One of the more interesting aspects was that we’re given a little more lore concerning the compass, the nature of the sea magic, and Jack’s past. None of it is made specifically clear but it adds a little more to our idea of the world.
The humour didn’t work so well in places for this sequel. Many of the jokes seemed somewhat too obvious or just didn’t have the right performance. The family trivia of the new main characters was fairly basic and predictable; feeling like many other Disney action films to come out around the same time, the part on the anchor looked almost exactly the same and felt semantically similar to one near the end of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017).
This one did better than its predecessor because there was more focus on continuity and some aspects of each of the previous films were included, whereas the previous installment felt as though it was a spin-off from the main series. The effects were up to their usual high standard and were a large part of what made it entertaining.
One effect that didn’t land so well was the age-down appearance for some of the actors that looked odd and was rather distracting. The villain was alright and performed well by the actor but was overall rather underwhelming. The most irritating thing was that a new token female was included in roughly the same role as the previous one who also appears briefly for a cameo but isn’t permitted to speak.
3/10 -This one’s bad but it’s got some good in it, just there-
-Some liberties were taken with the shark anatomy like giving them a larger, human-like, rib cage.
-Production locations were used secretly, naming the film “Herschel” so that fans wouldn’t interrupt filming.
-Despite roughly 25 years passing since last seeing Elizabeth and Will in the main body of the film, Will hasn’t aged due to his curse, however Elizabeth doesn’t appear to have aged the full time either.

Review: Diablo II: Resurrected
Nevertheless this is one of gaming’s great dungeon crawlers and despite showing its age, the gameplay remains just as fun and addictive as it was when it was first released. The lore of Diablo is as interesting as it ever was even if the storytelling isn’t nearly as fleshed out as one would see in modern games. Giving a facelift to a twenty-year-old game without updating the gameplay is a gamble, but thankfully that is exactly what we got with Diablo II: Resurrected which is how the original fans would want it.
