Shaka didn’t give much thought to Blossom not greeting him when he got home. What he found strange was that Aphrodite wasn’t home. It was one of those things, Aphrodite was always home first. He guessed it was one of the perks of being their own boss. So, he figured that something must have delayed him.
Shrugging, he simply hanged his coat in the rack near the door and made a beeline to the bedroom. It was only then, that he found strange that Blossom was nowhere to be found. He was about to text Aphrodite about it, when he saw a post-it on his side of the bed. It was from Aphrodite, it read: ‘Took Blossom out, we’ll be back soon.’
Letting a sigh of relief, he began to change to more comfortable clothes than the ones he used for teaching. Once he was done, he made his way to the kitchen to reheat the leftover curry he’d made the previous day. There was no point of waiting for Aphrodite, he didn’t know if they had simply gone for a walk around the neighborhood or the dog park, and if they did go to the dog park, they would be gone for a while.
So he ate slowly, and when he was done, he made his way to the office they shared and grabbed the book he was meaning to start. Book in hand, he went to their bedroom and sat on the recliner they had put in one corner, in order to make a small reading nook. He began to read and lost track of the time, he only looked up when he heard the door opening and closing, “Aphrodite, I’m home.” He called out.
“Darling, we’re back!” Was the response. And a few moments later, he heard the clear steps of Aphrodite as he made his way to their room. “Well, you beat me,” Aphrodite said as he stood at the door frame.
He looked at his husband, who had both hands behind his back, he frowned confused, “Is something wrong?”
“No,” Aphrodite’s voice hinted at something. “Nothing that should worry you.”
“Aphrodite,” He said calmly. “Please show me what’s behind your back.”
Aphrodite sighed and said, “Ta-da!” He said as he showed him what was behind his back. It was Blossom, their pomeranian. And their dog was dressed in a pink dress and dog booties. “Isn’t she a cutie?”
He snorted, “Aphrodite, dogs don’t wear clothes.”
Aphrodite laughed, “Well, not usually. But look at her, isn’t she the cutest little doggy you’ve ever seen?”
He had to admit, the pink and white dress complimented Blossom’s snow white fur. And it wasn’t an ugly dress, it was simple and elegant. “I’ll admit she does,” he put his book down and reached for Blossom, and Aphrodite gave her to him. Blossom immediately began trying to lick him.
“Well, she’s the cutest dog, so I figured, why not?”
He was petting Blossom, and yes, he had to agree, what harm was to put her in cute little dog clothes. “Why not indeed. Well, you picked a nice dress for her.”
Aphrodite smiled and leaned down to kiss him, he met him halfway. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” A bark, and laughing, he said, “And we love you too Blossom.”
