Spirits move me, every time I’m near you
Whirling like a cyclone in my mind
You’re my life line, angel of my lifetime
Answer to all answers I can find
Baby I want you come, come, come into my arms
Let me feel the wonder of all of you
Could it be magic now, now, now and hold on fast
Could this be the magic at last?
- “Could It Be Magic”, Barry Manilow, 1973 (third stanza rewritten by group Take That, 1992)
My second most popular drawing on DeviantART, Princess Mercury and Zoisite, digitally redone. The original was done in 2008, with a half-hearted attempt at a revamp in 2010.
Princess Mercury and Zoisite embracing in a scene taking place during the Silver Millennium. Planet Mercury’s atmosphere is being stripped away by the sun and it forms a nebula cloud around the lovers, who see only each other. Cherry blossoms co-mingle with blue iridescent bubbles as the lovers teleport in near the planet, their hair and capes blowing in the solar wind. A gold border dripping with watercolor bluebells and lily-of-the-valley on each end frames the left side of the picture.
I figured since this romance took place eons before the Silver Crystal reset humanity’s timeline, this would be when planet Mercury had some sort of atmosphere and the Sun was burning it away (hence the nebula that surrounds them). Also, with Zoisite’s cape I wanted to reflect the colors of his stone, ruby zoisite (which is a purplish red/green mix). Layout partially inspired by the new Eternal manga covers.
Done in Photoshop CC, with Kyle’s oils and watercolor. Planet Mercury, Sun, gold border, and cherry blossoms from pngfuel.com
