Simon repressed his feelings for Baz for so long (or just ignored them I guess.
But he still felt the feelings, even if they were ignored. He still has the list.
So when, finally, he realized or thought about it he was already deeply in love with Baz. And they already felt ‘comfortable’ with each other in some way from living together for all those years.
I guess what I’m trying to say is Baz and Simon already got to know each other, studied wach other (as you do when you’re enemies), that when they finally expressed their feelings in a outward way they already had years of “being together” without actually being in a relationship.
