“Slow down” she said to the clock,
“Slow down because I can’t keep up”
But the clock was cruel and ignored her every plea,
Because he had seen this all before,
It was familiar to him.
One day she would plead “slow down”,
The next she would beg “hurry up!”
No different than anyone else,
She couldn’t make up her mind.
So he continued to watch on in silence.
The clock never once waited for her.
Right up to the day she stopped asking,
Her time was up.
“How much time did this one waste?” He was asked,
“Didn’t waste my time keeping track” he replied as he raised the glass to his lips,
“I did my job”
“I didn’t waste a second”
It had been hard for him to watch her,
Squander her short time.
He wondered what it was that made humans commit this heinous crime,
This liquidation of their precious time,
Over and over,
Time and time again.
“Time to go”
