There’s Always Time For Music!
It had been a long week and even more so since the November 8th U.S presidential election. So much tension, protests, and worry have been surrounding my very existence. I needed some live music to heal my soul. Los Angeles had finally decided to feel like autumn. As the night got colder, I got cozier in my bed. 8pm became 9pm and soon 10pm. Was I really willing to wait another week until another free Wednesday show at Lucky Strike in Hollywood? No sir/ma'am I was not!
I managed to gather energy, jump out of bed, change and catch an uber at 11:40pm. My uber driver was a very friendly lady that asked “so where are you off to this late on a weekday?” I answered, “Oh, I wanted to catch the remainder of this free show I wanted to check out.” She looked very confused and probably did not understand I was in search of inner peace. Once I was at the venue, the clock struck midnight and Act Three immediately opened with Carl Restivo on vocals covering “You Only Get What You Give” by New Radicals.
I was instantly thankful I could be around other music lovers enjoying such an awesome show. Little did I know I would also have the honor and privilege of seeing two Time Grammy award winning bassist player Jerry Jemmott. Amazing bass guitarist! He & Lorraine Ellison performed an amazing heartfelt cover of you don’t know nothing.
I usually go to these Wednesday cover nights by myself. Nevertheless I never cease to be so fulfilled with such postive vibes and energy from all the folks that have become “The Usuals” to my weekly visit to Hollywood & Highland.
