Swedish Cardamom buns - I wanted dessert but felt guilty eating it so I made this using sourdough and whole grains :)
And the rye sourdough starter is starting to ferment after two days, whoo! If anyone wants specifics, this is a barm (thin starter, half and half of flour and water). Still a little low, so I’ll check in the evening if it’s a little bigger and then switch it to a bigger bowl while I refresh it with more flour/water.
As a hobby baker that loves to make cakes but can’t get the hang of making good bread, I tried making sourdough bread for the first time. I’m pretty proud of it, even if it came out weirdly shaped and the scoring didn’t go too well. Don’t look at the crooked slice, though :P I’ve also made made sourdough waffles right afterwards and they were pretty damn good.

Sourdough with saffron and fennel seed
Based on Hobbs House Bakery simple white sourdough recipe (with added spices)
Baked in preheated Dutch oven at 500F (20 min covered, then 20 min uncovered)
On the same day I baked a 2nd loaf, but instead of using saffron, I used turmeric powder. Suprisingly, they both came out with an almost identical bright yellow color (see photos in separate post). I’m familiar with saffron being used in the yellow rice of Spanish paella. I picked up this saffron during a trip to Thessaloniki, Greece last year.

Just a touch of whole wheat flour (60g) makes a difference (the rest was all-purpose flour).

Not tofu but pumfu scramble. If you don’t know what pumpu is it’s a tofu alternative made out of pumpkin seeds. Today I scrambled that up with some curry powder and then put pickled peppers on it. I also toasted up some homemade whole wheat sourdough bread and peeled a small grapefruit from my Misfits box. Oh and I’m drinking a peach Zevia iced tea.
I might have starved my sourdough starter to death.
I think I need to restart another sourdough starter
