Game 147 - Cozy Grove by Spry Fox

What did I think it was at first? It looks Animal Crossing-ish.

How was the character creator? The character creator is not gendered and includes a variety of skin tones and eye options. You have to purchase hair choices later in the game. There are also a few outfit choices that make the creator more inclusive (hijab, etc.).

How was the game? Cozy Grove is a cute real-time based crafting game. You are a spooky scout and your job is to make the ghost bears feel better.

The mechanics involve crafting, fishing, and gathering. It feels very similar to a 2D Animal Crossing with a Halloween flair.

The watercolor environment is lovely, and the music is nice as well. I liked that the game progresses in real time - the gameplay can get a bit repetitive, so this was a nice way to extend it.

What did I not love? The crafting is not super intuitive, and it can take a while to figure out what you can find and what you ned to make.

I also had a hard time figuring out how the "color" in the world works? Some areas are always colored in, some are not, and I couldn't really tell what it meant.

At 3 hours and $9.89, was it really worth it? It is a pretty cute game! I don't really love crafting games and still got a lot out of it. Give Cozy Grove a try!

Daf Yomi Week 88: New Year, New Deer

Shabbat Shalom and welcome! It was one of those weeks where it was tough to wring extra meaning or comedy out of the reading, so I thought I’d share some early fall deer with all of you; this was the view out the bedroom window this morning at my parents’ home.

I hope everyone had a good and meaningful Yom Kippur, and that you’re getting excited for Sukkot! It’s very early fall here so the world does feel a bit scrubbed-fresh-and-clean, with a nice breeze and not too much humidity.

I’ve been trying to think this week how to write about the change of seasons, and the change from “outdoor” weather to “indoor” weather in specific, but it’s difficult -- it’s all tied up with trying to put the Talmud in context, the tension between wanting to study and wanting to be outside roaming around, the conflict of my life in a very urban environment with the lives of the Amoraim and the Sages, who lived in an agrarian (and occasionally nomadic) community. It’s not coming easily, though, so talking about thinking about it might be the best I can offer.

I really love my parents’ home, which is fairly rural, so you do get deer, foxes, tons of birds, and the neighbors have goats and sheep and the accompanying herding dogs. On the other hand, I could do without the mosquitos and spiders, the lizards and scorpions, and the fox scat one tends to step in on long walks. I am fortunate to have lived a life untroubled by ticks, but they are certainly about. And as my parents get older, though they remain spry, I do worry about them living this far from fire stations and emergency rooms. But they love it out here too, so we keep putting off that conversation as long as they’re getting around okay.

So yeah, at the turn of the year and in anticipation of Sukkot I’m thinking a lot about relationships to nature and how they impact not just how the Talmud was created but how we interact with it today, how undoubtedly a landscape not too dissimilar to the one I’m sitting in influenced faith and culture. But I can’t say I’m thinking about it very coherently. Which is fine, for now.

Because we have 298 weeks to go! I’m sure we’ll get there, in time. And as much as I’m looking forward to Sukkot I’m also looking forward to the end of September, when maybe I can rest a little.

you will not call yourself a craven. They were made of words, and words were wind

And here’s another order. From this day forth, you will not call yourself a craven. They were made of words, and words were wind. There would be no son for Loraq, no heir to unite dragon and harpy. In 625, the Council of Rheims decreed excommunication to all those who pursue free persons in order to reduce them to slavery. The twenty-seventh canon of the Council of London, held 1102, forbade the barbarous custom of trading in men, like animals; and the seventh canon of the novolux 60 ledCouncil of Coblentz, held 922, declares that he who takes away a Christian to sell him is guilty of homicide. He states that it is customary at an early age to separate mothers from their children, for the purpose of blunting 17and deadening natural affection. When he was three years old his mother was sent to work on a plantation eight or ten miles distant, and after that he never saw her except in the night. Lundy Lane, an intelligent fugitive who has published his memoirs, says that on one occasion they (the slaves) were greatly delighted with a certain preacher, until he told them that God had ordained and created them expressly to make slaves of. He says that after that they all left him, and went away, because they thought, with the Jews, “This is a hard saying; who can hear it?”. First to make the ascent were the clan chiefs Flint and Norrey, clad in fur and iron. The Norrey looked like some old fox—wrinkled and slight of build, but sly-eyed and spry. Yet when light came, the camp woke to snow and silence. The sky turned from black to white, and seemed no brighter. He set my horse afire. That was the last sight he had seen the day the castle fell: Smiler burning, the flames leaping from his mane as he reared up, kicking, screaming, his eyes white with terror. Tell them at the same time about your grandfather, how he wouldn’t forgive your mother, and how she sent you to him just before her death how she died. Tell them everything, everything! And when you tell them all that, the old man will feel

Mr. Dickey’s account of the finale is thus:. “Stannis and legjobb kutyaruha esőkabát his pantofi sport cu scai barbati knights have left Deepwood Motte, flying the banner of his new red god. The clans of the northern hills come with him on their shaggy runtish horses. The church cizme din denim is familiarly quoted as being on the side of slavery. Statesmen on both sides of the question have laid that down as a settled fact. Before God and you all, I here pledge cizme din denimmyself to continue it, if need be, till death. If I fall, my grave shall be made in Alton.”. An enormity of pillars, steps, buttresses, bridges, domes, and towers flowing into one another as if they had all been chiseled from one collossal rock, the Temple of the Lord of Light loomed like Aegon’s High Hill. A hundred hues of red, yellow, gold, and orange met and melded in the temple walls, dissolving one into the other like clouds at sunset. She would sooner sit bathed in the ruddy glow of her red lord’s blessed flames, her cheeks flushed by the wash of heat as if by a lover’s kisses. Some nights she drowsed, but never for more than an hour. I should have taken one of them when I had the chance. One of the twins, or the big man with the scarred face, or the youth with the red hair. R’hllor. A red priest, then. Asha’s ankle throbbed beneath her weight with every step. The cold will numb it soon enough, she told herself. His face (you know the expression of his face, Vanya), I can’t look at it without being moved; no one else has such an expression, and when he laughs it makes me turn cold and shudder . Really! . Bran and Rickon had been murdered too, beheaded at the behest of Theon Greyjoy, who had once been their lord father’s ward … but if dreams did not lie, their

direwolves had escaped. At Queenscrown, one had come out of the darkness to save Jon’s life. It was three weeks since we had seen each other. I looked at her with amazement and dread. The feast continued late into the night, presided over by the grinning skull on its pillar of black marble. Seven courses were served, in honor of the seven gods and the seven brothers of the Kingsguard. All he and Ramsay had in common were their eyes. His eyes are ice. The lord of suet was already dying from whatever hideous disease he had brought back from Sothoryos, it seemed to Tyrion. This would just hasten his end. Even old Doniphos has given his assent. chanel ágynemű Such a glorious adventure. The dwarf clambered up onto a chair. It was much too big for him, a cushioned throne intended to accommodate the magister’s massive buttocks, with thick sturdy legs to bear his weight. Then he said chanel ágynemű he’d stay a little longer — ‘I’ll wait for Vanya, maybe he’ll come in’; and he did his best to persuade me not to be afraid of him, but to sit down beside him. I sat down, but I didn’t want to say anything to him. Tyrion began his explorations with the kitchen, where two fat women and a potboy watched him warily as he helped himself to cheese, bread, and figs. “Good morrow to you, fair ladies,” he said with a bow. Red crabs and spider crabs and conquerors. I won’t eat spider crab, except in sister’s stew. “We stopped at a tavern near the railroad, and I told the landlord (I think it was) that I was free. I also told several persons at the car-office; and a very nice-looking man at the car-office was talking at the door, and he said he thought that they had better take me back again. “He’s dead.” Bran could taste the bile in his throat. “Meera, he’s some dead thing.

    BURNING THE LETTERS

I made a fire; being tired Of the white fists of old Letters and their death rattle When I came too close to the wastebasket What did they know that I didn't? Grain by grain, they unrolled Sands where a dream of clear water Grinned like a getaway car. I am not subtle Love, love, and well, I was tired Of cardboard cartons the color of cement or a dog pack Holding in it's hate Dully, under a pack of men in red jackets, And the eyes and times of the postmarks. This fire may lick and fawn, but it is merciless: A glass case My fingers would enter although They melt and sag, they are told Do not touch. And here is an end to the writing, The spry hooks that bend and cringe and the smiles, the smiles And at least it will be a good place now, the attic. At least I won't be strung just under the surface, Dumb fish With one tin eye, Watching for glints, Riding my Arctic Between this wish and that wish. So, I poke at the carbon birds in my housedress. They are more beautiful than my bodiless owl, They console me— Rising and flying, but blinded. They would flutter off, black and glittering, they would be coal angels Only they have nothing to say but anybody. I have seen to that. With the butt of a rake I flake up papers that breathe like people, I fan them out Between the yellow lettuces and the German cabbage Involved in it's weird blue dreams Involved in a foetus. And a name with black edges Wilts at my foot, Sinuous orchis In a nest of root-hairs and boredom— Pale eyes, patent-leather gutturals! Warm rain greases my hair, extinguishes nothing. My veins glow like trees. The dogs are tearing a fox. This is what it is like A read burst and a cry That splits from it's ripped bag and does not stop With that dead eye And the stuffed expression, but goes on Dyeing the air, Telling the particles of the clouds, the leaves, the water What immortality is. That it is immortal.
