Color fall, oct 19-21, featuring Marie in her new gear!
I spent half of the drawing time on her parasol's design only to have most of it not even be visible in the finished drawing... These are the realities of art

we finished the show! and... the ending was not enjoyed. tbh i wasn’t sure how my sister would feel about the end because i know it’s very divisive among other viewers, but yeah, she’s very annoyed about it all.
personally, i do see why a lot of people dislike the ending. it is frustrating that gihun spends a year doing nothing, when both saebyeok and sangwoo wanted him to help their families, and it’s frustrating that he didn’t get on the plane when one of his main motivations was being able to see his daughter.
but on the other hand, he’s clearly deeply traumatised. it would be impossible to watch 455 people die, within a week no less, and not be changed by it. to endure all of that, and then come home to find your mother dead, alone... i can’t imagine how anyone would be able to function.
personally, i quite liked the ending. his initial refusal to use the money after everything that had happened felt true to his character, and maybe it’s unrealistic for gihun to try putting a stop to the games, if that is indeed his intention, but if every hero was limited to just realistic goals, there’d be very few actual heroes left.

my sister finally seems fond of saebyeok... right as we're about to go into episode 8...
okay outside the broader commentary it presents, squid game is also pretty good actually imo in that its main setting succeeds where basically every other recent death game narrative has either failed for me or just not paid as much attention. This ofc being that the death game itself feels very realistic and therefore even more palatably hopeless once you really think about it. seeing as most media in the genre choose their restricting force to be like, magic or absurdly advanced technology or “oh ya extradimensional rules no escaping,” those sort of allow you to pull your mind out of the dismal environment they’re intended to cultivate, since that kind of plot device is so logically impenetrable, and instead set it to waiting on the deus ex machina to happen that dismantles the entire thing via unmasking the mastermind or just finding the hole within that restricting force or a character/set of characters winning.
i think this is all doubly compelling, both within the narrative and externally to the show if you’re someone burnt out on the death game thing, because considering what the grander purpose of the plot is then it makes even more sense for the game itself to be imperfect and nearly humanized on every level. from the players all the way up the chain through those maintaining it, and to those orchestrating it.
And yes, obviously having the game behave any other way than this would be totally tone-deaf but it’s still nice to see something new come from an area rarely altered in any notable way.
curious if other people tend to do like family movie nights/just watch stuff together with your family what kind of stuff you gravitate towards. because i'm realizing with my family it's Ethnic Media and/or some weird bullshit that really is not family friendly at all
after nearly 2 weeks i’ve finally watched Squid Game ep8.
