Together with many thanks to everyone who posted good wishes and stay-safe messages, here’s an update to yesterday’s post.
Many places are a mess - 60,000 homes without power, Cork flooded when the River Lee burst its banks, roads blocked by fallen trees, you name it.
However we’ve been very lucky (SO FAR, let’s not tempt fate): our power has stayed on, the high ground and good local drainage has prevented any flooding despite some like-it’s-going-out-of-style rainfall, and there seem to be no fallen-tree holes in the skyline.
Storm Barra is moving off, despite occasional ferocious Not-Done-Yet gusts out of a near-clear sky (any one of which could switch us off with a fallen branch, so “Don’t get cocky, kid!”)

Zusammen mit Harry Cooper am Baritonhorn und Cahill Kelly am Klavier legt die australische Sängerin und Gitarristin ein wildes, pompöses Folk-Abenteuer vor, in dem die dröhnende Stimme von Cummings mit den schrillen und bedrohlich fauchenden Arrangements der beiden Gäste verschmilzt - die besonders im letzten Abschnitt des Songs ganz eigene, experimentelle Gefilde ansteuern.
“This song was the last song I wrote for the album and very quickly before recording", berichtet die in Melbourne lebende ausgebildete Schauspielerin. "The song is my favourite track on the whole album. I played the timpani in here to make it just that little bit bigger. I wanted this to be fuckin raw and ugly and full of fucking gunfire and tears and dirt and ruin”.

Indonesia - At least 5 people have lost their lives and thousands of homes have been damaged after days of flooding in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. Flooding has affected parts of West Lombok, East Lombok, Bima, North Lombok and Sumbawa since 05 December. Heavy rain caused flash flooding and rivers to overflow. The situation was worsened by high tides in some coastal areas. The five fatalities were reported in West Lombok Regency, where around 25,000 people have been affected and 6,500 displaced. Around 448 homes and 3 bridges suffered severe damage. Eight people were reported injured and one missing and search operations were continuing.
Короче, если с переводом "Swims-at-Night" как "Плывущий-в-Ночи" я ещё согласна (и то придирка скорее всего идет от привычки к переводу Морроувинда от Акеллы - мне бы зашёл прямой перевод "Плавает-в-Ночи")))), то с "Sails-through-Storms" немножечко упростили. Sail, помимо как "плавать", ещё можно перевести как "ходить под парусом", и просто "Плывущая-в-Шторм" не настолько говорит о стремлении к риску как "Под-парусом-в-Шторма".

How did Nikolai coordinate the Volkvolny's ambush? He could not prepare a location ahead of time because the whaler's course was charted by Mal's instruction. There is no radio, signal flags would be noticed, and the Volkvolny could not follow them without being spotted as is seen in the above excerpt.
The best solution I have come up with so far is that the Hummingbird may have been keeping pace with the whaling ship, but I would be happy to hear other suggestions.
Bakarat Stone – A crystal species which enables those with the right crystal-mage talent or technology to view past events, and rumour has it, future events too. However, they can be dangerous if used incorrectly or without enough care. It originates on two terras, and centuries ago it was manufactured in the dozens, but now specimens of this crystal are highly rare; most having been lost, destroyed or stored away in museums and collections.
Terra Fujiladang – A densely-populated terra which is a central manufacturer of wigs and fake moustaches for the Ionos. Its geologically-unstable landscape is a mix of mountains (specifically inactive volcanoes) and flat plains, and it has a humid climate. Combine these features with the fact overpopulated towns and slums are built on any available land, and Fujiladang’s populace are used to suffering earthquakes and flash floods. Technologically, the terra is mostly behind, except for the factories’ performance-enhancing and crystal-manufacturing, and the public possess only short-range warp transport.
Bundarlikesh – The native people of Terra Bundarlika, who possess an endoskeleton resembling an insectoid exoskeleton in structure, covered by grey skin. They’re notable for their fast-moving fingers, and when they aren’t threatened they make a diligent work-force, but they’re quite easily injured by physical trauma to the torso.
Blacktalon’s mind-probing device – A highly efficient interrogation device used by Blacktalon on Aerrow. The helmet works by psionically inducing excruciating pain in the wearer and further heightening the pain receptors, and it injects drugs directly into the spine which weaken the wearer’s willpower yet also make the host less likely to go insane. Like Blacktalon’s guandao, this device mutates the powering crystal instead of the crystal affecting the technology.
King Stork-a-Tron – A large, mechanised battlesuit created by Stork as a successor to the Stork-a-Saurus on Atmos. It has more than a dozen defensive and offensive capabilities, including jet propulsion, a minigun-like missile launcher, a forcefield, lightning-firing electrodes, and a weapon which converts solid matter to gunk. One of its few notable weaknesses is that the suit’s propulsion system isn’t well-protected.
Bōng-Pŭtái – A very common flowering plant which grows throughout Ionos in the north, east and west. It’s identifiable by the white flowers and curving vines it grows. Bōng-Pŭtái have a few symbolic and practical uses on different terras, including symbolising engagement, symbolising mourning, and brewing basic herbal medicines.
