I think I need noise-canceling headphones. In high school, I had some noise-canceling earbuds that helped me deal with the loudness of school and not freak out but I hated that they were in my ears. felt bad. Also I lost them and I want them right now because there’s vacuuming going on and I can’t stand it. Also I think if I wore noise-canceling headphones people would just talk to me less when I didn’t want to be talked to.

It's been so long now that Techno's never ending positivity is starting to fade. He tries not to let it get to him, a mix of him refusing to show weakness and not wanting to add to Dream's stress. But after a night of horrible nightmares and nearly two months of eating rotting potatoes, his control slips.

With a frustrated yell Techno throws the moldy potato he was holding at the far wall. Instantly, regret and shame well up in him and he covers his face with shaking hands. He doesn't want to see Dream's reaction, knowing that he probably scared the other man.

He tries to get control of his ragged breaths and push down the overwhelming feeling of hopelessness that is becoming harder and harder to ignore these days. Then, to Techno's surprise he feels hands wrap around his wrists; he hadn't expected Dream to come near him.

Dream doesn't try to move Techno's hands from his face, he just holds him, rubbing his thumbs on the inside of Techno's wrists, grounding him. Techno doesn't know how long they stay like that, but gradually his breath evens out and he slowly lowers his hands. Dream doesn't let go and when Techno meets his eyes he doesn't see pity, but understanding.

After that, things are still awful but now when Techno feels that hopelessness threatening to overwhelm him, he'll look at Dream and remember that he isn't alone. And that makes him feel just a bit better.
