hot take: josie giving up her magic and going to a regular high school was not only probably the best thing for her mental health, but her moral responsibility at the time. during her dark!josie arc, she clearly came to rely on her use of magic, and dark magic in particular, to hurt people. the next logical step to rehabilitation WOULD be to get rid of it until she knew she could handle it again and taking herself out of the environment where she could hurt people with it. frankly, i think that the arc could’ve/should’ve lasted longer. i know that it lasted like eleven episodes, which is a decent amount of time, but if i had written her arc i probably would’ve waited at least until the end of the season. because as much as i love her, the things she did as dark!josie WERE fucked up and it would take time to really be ready to give yourself that kind of control again without compromising the safety and well-being of others. but anyway idk i’ve seen people crticizing this arc/who don’t like her in general say that her just giving up her magic and going to school wasn’t enough of a punishment but like. it wasn’t supposed to be? i’m of the mind that punishment is less effective than rehabilitation and shouldn’t be the goal.
