“It’s just not something that we deal with until we have to.
until we see it.
until we experience it.
until someone close to us is going through something like that”
I doubt this will ever be seen by Taylor, but I hope she knows that what she said in this video. My mom was diagnosed with cancer in August. I don’t think we ever imagine it can happen to someone close to us, but when it does, it’s really hard. I found a lot of Taylor’s songs are relatable, but I always prayed I would never have to relate this one. As of today, my mom is in remission but won’t get the “cancer free” signal until she has 5 years of clear scans. The next 5 years will be spent nervously waiting for annual exams, but I hope that Taylor knows that many people can relate. Many people don’t know what to do when facing this issue, but at the end of the day it’s comforting to feel like someone is in your corner and can relate. So thank you, Taylor. While this song had had me burst into tears multiple times, it’s also been a comfort knowing I’m going through this alone.
