#the orange Tumblr posts

  • At lunchtime I bought a huge orange—
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave—
They got quarters and I had a half.

And that orange, it made me so happy,
    As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park.
This is peace and contentment. It’s new.

The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all the jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
    I love you. I’m glad I exist.

  • After everything is said and done if Trump is reelected after this I will lose faith in this country completely. Like, at first he was just a racist, sexist dumbass who didn’t know when to shut up and sit down; but it has become consistently and increasingly worse to the point that this mf is tweeting things like “liberate Minnesota.” What type of president does this shit.

I don’t want Biden, I really don’t. But fucking hell if there’s another four years of THIS

**I’ve seen this poem across the interwebs a few times. It’s been running through my head as I walk the dog or get the mail this week, and has been lifting my spirits right now!

    Focus of query:

What should I focus on today?

    Card:

    image
    • The Sun

    First impressions:

A very powerful message. Vitality, joy, brightness, nature, carefree. Apollo. You WILL be happy; you have no choice in the matter. Maybe you just need to go outside for a change. Try for a little lightness of heart, some silliness - though remember streaking is probably taking it a bit too far, don’t you think? Or not. Trust the horse. You decide how tasteful and subtle to be. Channel what you can of your inner optimist. Warmth, fresh air, and geniality are important today.

    Guided reading:

Success, celebration, positivity, overcoming subconscious obstacles, bliss, material happiness, contentment, fun, warmth. My deck seems to be sending me a clear message to focus on overcoming my tendency towards melancholy, to take enjoyment in the good around me rather than shutting it away. Though the world is a changed and sombre place, spring is underway, and now more than ever we need to appreciate the freedoms and blessings still available, and look forward to the day when they are fully restored. In the meantime, it’s fine to be a little absurd; wear your flower crown, sing, dance, be loud - have fun and do whatever will make you smile.

    Reflection:

This card literally leapt at me today. Though I wouldn’t usually put too much stock in any ‘jumpers’ that slip out while shuffling, I felt strongly compelled to read from this one, and when I turned it over I saw why. This appears to be a message of hope and optimism, and a very forceful one at that. The only way for us to get through challenging times is to find happiness where we can, and The Sun reminds us to focus on lightening our spirits - perhaps by getting in touch with the natural world and taking care of our health. There is still light, and the future will be brighter still if we do what we can to have fun and spread positivity. It might feel tactless, it might not come naturally, but it’s healing. After pulling this card, I’ve seen little signs everywhere. The sun was out, and so was the horse in the stable by our house, and I’ve seen oranges everywhere too, which is random but they’ve always been a symbol of happiness to me. In the spirit of today’s card, here’s a few other things that made me smile today:

    1. The Orange - Poem by Wendy Cope.

    2. Orange Trees - Love + Fear, song by MARINA (in fact, maybe it’s just because I listened to it on repeat last summer, but the whole album is a mood booster without being in-your face about it).

    3. Re-reading the Percy Jackson series, which I’ve loved since I was a kid and even now is good for a bit of easy escapism.

    4. Received a really lovely text message from a friend I’ve been missing (who is, coincidentally, a Leo).

‘But what I wanted to say is this: after the period of melancholy is over, you will be stronger than before; you will recover your health, and you will find the scenery around you so beautiful that you will want nothing but to paint.’ — Vincent van Gogh.

(Or: cheer up, dude - you know there’s a literal horse outside your window right?).
