I just started reading Song of Achilles and chapter 4 screams gay pls-

The homoeroticism is so immaculate. Who in their sane little heterosexual mind would say “those seconds, half seconds, that our line of gaze connected, were the only moment in my day that I felt anything at all.”

Like okay patroclus you are a closeted gay we get it

#i could see it maybe being intentionally homoerotic for different reasons than griffguts gay #like to make their relationship extra intense and compelling without intending the homoeroticism to be read into further eg #but i can't imagine there being no intentional griffguts homoeroticism at all #Anonymous#ask#b#theme: homoeroticism#a

    just watched wonder woman 1984 :( <3

#ww84 spoilers #the first wonder woman movie is one my fav movies of all time and biggest comfort movies #and anyway #the second one was good too .... not as sexy as the first but when is it .... except for shrek 2... exactly #i like the part where she lets steve go and then learns how to fly... that was beautiful... and steves voiceover abt how he learned how to #fly... reminds me of ‘if you surrender to air you could ride it’ #and like.... surrender.... thats fhe overall theme of the movie... and i like that :( #and the first movie it was like ‘maybe theres no good and bad maybe its what you believe’ #but this time it was ‘theres so many beautiful things abt this world’.... and letting go and embracing that... embaracing changw... #embracing the unknown .... :( i like that #the catgirl was not as sexy as i hoped 🙄 and she was only a catgirl for like 2 mins #but i liked the homoeroticism #i probably wouldve liked it more if i saw it in theatres cause i was also playing acnh while watchinf it djksksks #ugh i love the concept of a theater. strangers come together in one room to enjoy and experience art together... #they need to be back soon asap. fr. #and the lynda carter cameo at the end.... its funny cause my AVID teacher said ahe met her at a concert #and she was rude LMFAO cause she was like ‘well they say never to meet ur idols :/‘ and i think abt that everydya #like imagine knowing fromis 9 and knowing that they’ve secretly said something problematic or are fucked up... like honestly... i’d rather #know and not stan them JDKKDKS then to blindly stan a secret bad person #ugh and thats whh i hate stan culture so much and celeb worship but fromis 9..... they just attract me for some reason lmfao #LMFAO wait im getting off topic ... basically i enjoyed wonder woman and i liked the theme of it <3 they never miss huh #i love the character of wonder woman soo much. she’s just so strong like emotionally and mentally and kind but not fragile u know... #i look up to her a little or whatever 🙄 i dont read comics but if i did i’d want someone to put me on wonder woman

we had this assessment to write an imaginative piece - a narrative stemming from a given quote.

i was texting one of my friends and i said “mine relies on homoerotic subtext but i hope it’s subtle.”

she said “that feeling when you don’t know what it means but it sounds super cool :o”

i grin on the other side of the screen and say “it means gays, abigail”

and i think about that a lot

#my teacher commented on my piece and said that was very engaging #i really want go up to her and ask if she recognised a few ‘subtle’ themes #i ship my precious ocs niko and ken too hard uwu #homoeroticism#homoerotic subtext#homoerotic literature

I was tagged by @stanfordsweater for this getting to know you game. Thanks so much for the tag! 😊💕 There’s a clean copy at the end for people who want to do this.

    1. why did you choose your url?

    It was already my user name on AO3 (and maybe some other sites, can't recall) and I wanted consistency across platforms (since I joined tumblr for fandom). And here's the pretentious part: if you didn't know, it's a reference to Hamlet, which is one of my favorite written works ever. Elsinore is the name of the castle where it takes place, so the prince of Elsinore is Hamlet ^^;

    2. any sideblogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.

I have two, though I'm not gonna name them lol (they're not exactly secret but they're old news). When I first joined I wanted my main to be not totally fandom-dominated (whoops so much for that) so I made a side blog for my main fandom at the time (Hetalia), where I now reblog fanart every once in a blue moon. And I made another side blog for my fic. I still occasionally post on the fic blog but since my main is now basically completely spn anyway, I've just been posting my spn fic on main.

    3. how long have you been on tumblr?

    Since... 2012, I think? But not consistently. I hadn't used tumblr much in years before last fall and even considered deleting my blog multiple times, but spn ending (and the pandemic) brought me back stronger than ever ^^;

    4. do you have a queue tag?

#q  (i'm lazy and it's just quickest that way 🙈)

    5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

If only I could remember... Well, it was for fandom (mostly--also some history blogging) but I don't remember the specific impetus. As mentioned my main fandom was Hetalia at the time, and within that mostly German bros stuff. I also distinctly remember lurking on a lot of Sherlock blogs prior to joining 😬(my how tastes things change)

    6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

It's a Leyendecker illustration! I love his work so so much (so many dapper men, so much homoeroticism 👌). The piece is Easter-themed and I don't actually know why I chose it. This fop is a far cry from his usual suave dudes, but idk, I guess I liked how ott and fancy it is. It also matched the old flowery aesthetic of my blog before I changed the theme.

    7. why did you choose your header?

Lol ok so that's a photo I took (on my first visit maybe?) at Sans Souci palace in Potsdam, Germany. It was the residence of Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, who--as anyone will know if they remember my blog days of yore--is my favorite historical figure! The glove is not mine. I found it like that :)

    8. what’s your post with the most notes?

As I suspected, this one I made defending Jared's "controversial" comments post-finale. Sort of funny because I'm not even a Jared stan 🤷‍♂️

    9. how many mutuals do you have?

    No idea

    10. how many followers do you have?

Just passed 550, which I know isn't many relatively speaking but wow I certainly never expected to see the day! I've gained about 300 followers since I started posting about spn, which utterly baffles me, but hey I'm glad if you guys are enjoying yourselves!

    11. how many people do you follow?

Oh, wow, I just looked and it's over 1,000 😳 I guess b/c over the years I've gone on multiple following sprees and only unfollow if people really really annoy me or if I just get really tired of their content (I do continue to follow a lot of people who post about fandoms I'm not in). I feel like I usually see the same <50 blogs on my dash, though, so I'm guessing about 900 of the blogs I follow must be completely inactive lol.

    12. have you ever made a shitpost?

    Yes 🙃

    13. how often do you use tumblr each day?

Varies. Over the past months I would check it every hour or more, felt like (not v conducive to getting work done orz). Recently (due to being away from my computer more often, now that the semester and my old job are finished) only a couple times a day, mostly at night.

    14. did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? who won?

Hm, not really. Nothing more than a couple snarky or passive-aggressive asks, and not for years (aside from that anon anti hate I got sort of recently--my first ever! I would say I win that one by default, y'know, just for not being the person sending anon hate). I did get into a pretty drawn-out debate with a Dean stan about Dean's death and Jared's comments on it--see above--but I wouldn't classify it as an argument.

    15. how do you feel about “you need to reblog this” posts?

    Very Tired and skeptical

    16. do you like tag games?

Yes they're great! Always make me smile (even if I don't participate I always appreciate the tag!) 😊

    17. do you like ask games?

Yes, although I have to be careful about posting them because while I love getting asks in theory, getting them means I have to answer them! And I tend to be very slow at that because I want to put so much thought into it! (Send me asks any time, really! Might just take me forever to respond ^^;) ((Oh gosh this reminds me I still never finished some headcanon asks I got aaages ago. Maybe someday...))

    18. which of your mutuals do you think is tumblr famous?

I don't have a good sense of what constitutes tumblr famous. My fave blogs are all stars in my eyes 🤩😇

    19. do you have a crush on a mutual?

Haha no. Maybe with a few I just have a little cherished hope that they think I'm cool and smart 🥺

    20. tags?

    Hmm I pick @theregoestheneighbourhood, @doilycoffin, @decadent-prince, and @fallcolorspringrapid if you want to!!

    clean copy:

    1. why did you choose your url?

    2. any sideblogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them.

    3. how long have you been on tumblr?

    4. do you have a queue tag?

    5. why did you start your blog in the first place?

    6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

    7. why did you choose your header?

    8. what’s your post with the most notes?

    9. how many mutuals do you have?

-the inherent homoeroticism of a large scale and well chereographed fight scene

-all of the groups have theme songs

-murayama is in fact one of the best characters

-the costume design is kick ass, i have no complaints

reasons why school 2013 is a wonderful kdrama that everyone should watch, actually, even though literally no one asked, and this is coming from someone who...doesn’t really like to watch kdramas about high school anymore:

solid emphasis on friendships and all the strain that comes with that

the problems that teenagers struggle with are serious and valid, actually

demonstrates that the school system fails its at-risk youth

rivals to co-workers to co-parents of a class to lovers

heavily queer-coded characters / intense homoeroticism (and idk i think the cast themselves were all like “yeah...uh....they were definitely in love / feels like they’re more lovers than best friends”)

i mean it was 2013 and south korea is very conservative when it comes to lgbtq+ relationship, so i’m still gonna hand it to them for the writers and the actors doing the best they could

themes about what it means to let go of someone....themes of when it’s time to hold onto someone.......

teachers who make me cry but in a good way.

it’s important to have a dream. god. the way this message is repeated over and over and over again. don’t just study because you’re studying; study because you have a dream in mind.

some more serious themes about the negative impact of school stress on the mental health of students

actually, school shouldn’t just be a place for studying: it should also be a place for kids to meet their friends and learn how to dream and not give up on themselves.

    a+ cast

i thought i wouldn’t like this kdrama but i binge-watched it all in like 2 weeks. this is coming from someone who doesn’t really binge-watch things and takes forever to get through kdramas.

i know i say that a lot, but like. seriously.

also the lit teacher (played by choi daniel) is very attractive. same with the other lit teacher (played by jang na ra). bisexual culture.

#caroline talks #i can't stop screeching about this kdrama apparently #please validate me i know it's been like my fifth time thinking about this kdrama today #but i finished it at like 1 am last night so it hasn't even been 24 hours #it's just......I AM PROCESSING

    Shakespeare’s Poetry

    The Sonnets

For people who argue towards Shakespeare’s, what would likely be considered modern bisexuality, the sonnets are the largest evidence towards this. Queer themes have appeared in some of his other works, most famously Twelfth Night, but considering this is focused on specifically his poetry, I won’t be getting more in depth with that.

The sonnets are dedicated to a Mr. W.H.’, and most scholars agree that this is te same person as the ‘fair youth’ for whom sonnets 1 through 126 are written for. It’s popularly believed to be Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton or William Herbert, 3rd Earl of Pembroke, both patrons of Shakespeare, though who exactly remains up for debate.

It also could also have been the dedication of the man who published the book rather than Shakespeare himself, as when the sonnets were written they were intended for distribution amongst ‘private friends’, so there is some debate over how much Shakespeare would have supported the printing of them.

The sonnets are broken down into three catagories; the ‘procreation sonnets’, 1 through 17, which ere potentially commissioned by the mother of who he was writing to, sonnets 18 through 126, which shift from an emphasis to get married and have children to continue on his line, to a more personal look at he relationship between the speaker and the subject, the final 26 of the 154 sonnets are written to “the dark lady”, for whom the identity of also remains in debate.

Sonnet 20, while arguably the most explicit of the sonnets, ends with a denial that the relationship between Shakespeare on the ‘fair youth’ ever crossed the line into physical pleasure, however whether or not it was true, admitting it could have been a death sentence in Elizabethan England.

Two of the sonnets have lines that do not fit the usual sonnet format of fourteen lines, with a strict rhyme scheme. Sonnet 99 has 15 lines, and the last of the ones to the fair youth, sonnet 126, has only 12. It’s missing it’s final couplet, a sort of metaphorical representation to what could have been seen as a relationship cut short.

In 1640, the sonnets were reprinted, but the pronouns were changed, several of the terms were changed, and some titles ere added, addressing them to a woman. For example ‘sweet boy’ becomes ‘sweet love’. These changes were preserved as the primary version of publication until 1780, though they still remained until into the 19th century.

In recent decades, the willingness to discuss the homoeroticism has increased. Before, there was a focus on it just being a metaphorical persona when the homosexual undertones were discussed at all.
