As per usual, this is a bit late, but Happy Trans Day of Visibility! I’m 7 ½ weeks out of recovery for GCS top surgery, and I’m learning how to not just live but THRIVE. Even in the midst of this chaos, my quality of life has dramatically changed for the better (because it’s not a joke when we say gcs isn’t “cosmetic” smdh). Except for the last pic, these are all recent, most at C2E2 having the time of my life, and I got to tell Miles Luna that he was like my third hug ever post-surgery. Sometimes progress happens gradually; sometimes it happens in three hours and then the anesthesia wears off to leave you with the right body.

    (They/them, nonbinary)

  • Since we are now in March of 2020, which is Women’s History Month, I thought it was very important to share these truly remarkable images of women throughout history. The more I research and learn about women and what women have contributed to the world (and have yet to receive proper due credit & reward for), it makes me want to make a positive difference in how women are treated. As a man, I believe in the power of Women, and I want to do my part to help make a better world so that my unborn daughters can live in a world that is more supportive, respectful, and encouraging towards all females. This is not merely a man’s world - this is everybody’s world. Women are the ones who have the power to give life - no man holds that power - that is a special gift from God right there, dudes & dudettes.

Here’s to the Women of The WORLD!

  • Beyond The Gates (Title Sequence)

Totally GNARLY & excellent horror movie called “Beyond The Gates” about two brothers that find an old VHS Board Game from the 90s (an evil VHS Board Game, naturally).

LOVE this friggin’ song - and the VHS Vibe is totally awesome. For anyone who hasn’t seen the flick, totally a popcorn flick. Has this like, Nickelodeon “Are You Afraid of The Dark?” vibe to it, but for like grown-ups (if that makes sense) - that’s how I describe this movie. Totally gnarly gore in it (BLEH!), so don’t lose your lunch if ya watch the movie.

  • GOOD SOUNDS:

    30. PALEHOUND

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts is an Indie-Art-Rock band by the name of Palehound. Ellen Kempner (originally from Connecticut) is the soft-spoken heart & soul of the band, and her songs are a formidable display of eclectic guitar skills combined with exceptional lyrical content. Ellen Kempner’s vocals are simplistically-complex, with a voice that is both soothing & dream-like with each chorus.

Palehound is a fine example of complexities delivered in a simple manner. There’s a great deal of genuinely impressive & intricate guitar work being achieved by Kempner, who manages to keep an abstractly melodic sound (with total success). Palehound’s sound is uniquely versatile - having strong indie roots up in the NorthEast scene. The band’s heavily artsy/indie/alternative origins fit nicely with each new album, providing a cozy/cool vibe with each listen (some of the earlier stuff, songs like “Molly”, give such an awe-inspiring display of creativity that would make FUGAZI blush).

Palehound’s refreshingly female perspective brings a level of emotional accessibility and humorous irony that is absolutely ingenious. Aside from the downplayed charm of Kempner and her crew (Larz Brogan on Bass, Jesse Weiss on Drums), there’s a ton of honesty & beauty in Palehound’s music - and a good amount of dance-friendly jams. Ellen Kempner is a musician’s musician. This band takes the listener on a journey through deep emotional depths as well as sweet groovin’ jams and hooks and melodies that’ll make ya hum their songs all night. Palehound achieves a perfect balance of poetry & music. I highly recommend checkin’ out their live jams, especially their audiotree session (LEGIT)!

    Happy Listening!

  • “Take It Off” by The Donnas

So, I’ve heard a lot of people talk sh!t about “Girl Bands”, but there’s a lot of really f**king awesome ladies out there who know how to kick some ASS. The Donnas are easily one of those bands - they can outperform a lot of dudes I’ve seen.

Whenever I hear or see someone mention Female Drummers - I always think about Tory Castellano (the original ‘Donna C.’) because she is my all-time favorite female drummer. I didn’t know until very recently that she had to retire due to developing a bad case of tendonitis. Broke my heart to read her story, especially considering I couldn’t imagine a life without playing music. Apparently she wasn’t holding her drumsticks with the correct technique despite her personal preference (”just felt right”). Make that an important lesson for anyone learning any instruments - just follow proper technique - it’s there for a reason.

Totally wish I could have seen this original line-up shreddin’ it LIVE - UGH! THEY F**KING ROCK, DUDE!

  • Umoja: The Land of No Men

Women banded together and unified in a Women-Only Village, Umoja, in Kenya, Africa. I saw this story a long time ago and I still find it to be absolutely fascinating and astonishing. The story of the women who have been oppressed throughout history and modern-day must be known and recognized.

I admire these women for taking control back and not taking any oppression from any abusive men. I believe it’s in the world’s best interest for all men to protect & honor women rather than abuse & destroy. There is a better way.

This one is for all of the women who have been beaten down and took back control by fighting back and constructing a more harmonious life.

  • Here are 8 Totally Awesome photos of Margaret Hamilton, the Computer Scientist & Engineer who essentially created & coined the term “Software” & “Software Engineering”.

Margaret Hamilton’s accomplishments include leading the development of software for the NASA Apollo Missions (that sent the U.S. to the moon), creating software to predict the weather, and being one of the programmers that wrote software for a U.S. military computers to detect unfriendly aircrafts.

There is a misconception in the world that men are superior in the field of technology. It’s a shame that people believe in such a false concept, considering women paved the way for men to follow. Without women we would not have a lot of the technological advancements we currently have in contemporary society.
