The President of the United States Attacks a Minor… Again
It seems to be that time again. The leaves are changing colors and falling off trees. The air is bitter and the buildings are warm. Streets are snowy and children are bundled up to their noses in fluffy fabric. Turn on the radio, you might just hear some classic Christmas music fill the empty air around you. What lovely sounds to drown out the current political climate with. Though, you can only play Last Christmas by Wham! so many times before the ignorant leader of the United States decides to butt his nose into your holiday haze and forcefully push you back into reality. It’s quite cruel, but not even the season of joy can stop his undying need to spew hatred and nonsense. Well, let’s get on with it, who’s the President attacking today? A minor, but not just any minor, he’s attacking the girl that’s managed to rustle the feathers of almost every conservative for seemingly no reason, Greta Thunberg. If you don’t know who she is, let me fill you in. Greta Thunberg is a sixteen year old activist from Sweden. Her main focal point is climate change and the irreversible effects it will have on our planet if we don’t, essentially, clean up our act—in the most literal sense. Her efforts alone have disturbed the global warming deniers,—or republicans, but let’s not get into specifics—which led to fully grown adults harassing her. Some of the harassment even attempting to discredit her efforts by claiming her autism is a weak point. It’s disgusting what people will say and do to those that they disagree with, but nevertheless she preserved with grace. Which brings us to today, the day that the public found out Greta Thunberg is Time’s “Person of the Year”. Quite a feat for someone her age, so you would assume this news would be received well by the general public. Which it was, just not by everyone. “Not Everyone” meaning, Donald Trump, of course. Because why wouldn’t he have something to say on the matter? You’re probably asking: what was his exact response? “So ridiculous,” Trump tweeted from his official Twitter account. “Greta must work on her Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Greta, Chill!” Totally normal response coming from the seventy-three year old leader of our country. Not weird or childish at all. On the more mature side of things, Greta decided to avoid the back and forth completely and went with the just as impactful technique—making the hate tweet your twitter bio. It’s subtle, but without a doubt I’m sure Trump is still sitting somewhere steaming at the ears, like a cartoon character, over the seemingly “brush off the shoulder” response. So, I’d say it’s effective.
