Goodbye Rusty Pete
Goodbye Rusty Pete
Some very quick observational (from life) sketches of a young grey squirrel.
The mouse Police never sleeps.
Digital painting inspired by Jethro Tull’s Mouse Police song.
Earlier this week there was a female sparrowhawk in the garden, it spent quite a long time hunting around in the bushes for a little bird that had managed to escape.
A group of strangers by the side of the road staring at a giant bug: Oh god what the hell is that?? It’s hideous! How is it that big?
Me: Is that….is that a goat moth caterpillar?? *picks it up and has photo taken with it*
Seen this month (august) - common darter dragonfly. It was at a site with man-made lakes (restoration of gravel quarrying pits) and drainage ditches.
Found an Eyed hawk moth caterpillar!
Another guy that I found on my holiday last year, a Common Blue Damselfly (
Enallagma cyathigerum). He stayed still long enough for me to be able to creep forward and take this photo, I was very pleased with the detail captured on the wings especially! I cropped the picture from 5152 x 3864 pixels down to 1848 x 1386 pixels (I hope this can be understood lol) so that this detail can be better seen without zooming in :-)
We saw mallard and moorhen chicks down at the river today - fed them mealworms - they seemed to like them! Sweetest was seeing a parent bird scoop up a morsel, and then feed it to one of their little ones.
Ducklings 🤗 9 in total. All the ducks at this pond are Mallards (Anas platyrhynchos), the most common and widespread duck in the UK.
Search for Mallard Duck or Duck on your phone using Google, trust me it’s cool :-)
I spotted an injured juvenile crow in our garden. As we have tons of cats here in this area, we have housed him securely within the garden with plenty of dry grasses to nest in for the night, plenty of water, and enough food. Poor lad can’t fly or walk. We think he got hit by a car or flew into a window. He’s been wandering around the garden for at least seven hours and still no sight nor sound of his parents.
Will update in the morning.

This little fella just hoped past my feet as I sat out in the garden having a cuppa ☕️🐸
Lucky for me he didn’t mind posing for a photo after 😄
A smol moorhen bab in Brockwell Park
(and parent moorhen’s bum because they moved inconveniently)
