Because biochemistry seeks to unravel the complex chemical reactions that occur in a wide variety of life forms, it provides the basis for practical advances in medicine, veterinary medicine, agriculture, and biotechnology. It underlies and includes such exciting new fields as molecular genetics and bioengineering.

If you are looking to buy a specific type of pet care product, such as dog food or cat food, you may want to consider buying them online. You can find everything from basic pet products like food and treats, to specialty pet grooming supplies and items. There are tons of websites that offer products made especially for dogs and cats, and products made for canines and other animals. Many people prefer to buy their own products so that they can have complete control over the ingredients, which can sometimes be more challenging to find locally. Also, you have the flexibility of shopping in your pajamas if you prefer to do so. Another reason why many people shop online for these types of products is because they are often cheaper than in veterinary stores. There are often salespeople that are willing to sell whatever you want at the price that they want. Also, it is very easy to compare prices between different websites, allowing you to get the best deal possible. One tip, when you buy veterinary product online is to be sure to check out the return policy. Many will allow you to return the product within a certain amount of time after purchase for a full refund, but be aware that this will often vary by company. Other companies may not allow returns of any kind, regardless of the cause. Check out these policies before making any purchases. As with anything else, shopping around is the key to getting the best deal.
Urist seems to be getting more used to her hairball medicine.
I am obviously still Murdering Her when I smear Yucky Paste on her paw twice a week, but she comes out of hiding more quickly than she did at first, and tonight she noticed me pouring it into a measuring spoon and just stared woefully from her cat tree. She even let me apply it while she was laying in the tree and stood there with her paw in the air looking Very Sad for a solid minute or two before running to the bedroom to start licking it off.

Can fruit fly research help improve survival of cancer patients? New anti-cancer strategy — blocking chemicals produced by tumors — could boost life span, health span
The experience of a fruit fly dying from cancer may seem worlds away from that of a human with a life-threatening tumor, yet University of California, Berkeley, researchers are finding commonalities between the two that could lead to ways to prolong the lives of cancer patients. Fruit fly research is already pointing to a new anti-cancer strategy distinct from the conventional goal of destroying…

this was the first one I spotted all by myself on a fecal slide, so I was pretty proud of myself!
🇺🇸 I did not have any good pictures of the faculty I’m studying in, but here is the emergencies hospital of the university. Soon, I’ll be in there operating 😍
🇫🇷 Je n’avais pas de jolie photo de la fac ou j’étudie, mais voici l’hôpital des urgences vétérinaires de la fac. Bientôt j’y effectuerai des opérations 😍
Had a great time at the VALVT conference yesterday! Reconnected with my high school vet science teacher, met an LVT in research up in PA who was interested in the extern program at the WCV, and learned lots!
The craziest part was I only had like 10% of my usual social anxiety, so I participated in the lecture discussions and even got roped into introducing the hospice speaker O.O what the heck, brain? lol
(warning: some pics below of animal cadavers)
The animal drug law lecture was surprisingly not boring, as well as very informative. The biggest takeaways:
The best resources for checking if a drug is safe and legal to use in food animals (as well as withholding times) are the drug inserts and FARAD. If you aren't in production practice so you aren't familiar with these laws, but see pet livestock, exotic pets, and/or wildlife that include animals legally considered food animals, FARAD is your new best friend lol
Then I went to an update on Lyme disease and Leptospirosis. Happy to report that we're on top of these, with just a few minor adjustments needed to our vaccine protocols :D
Also, impressed the lecturer with my nerdy nerdy parasite knowledge when I correctly answered a Lyme disease question she didn't expect anyone to know the answer to lol
Btw that 80% survival rate for Leptospirosis is *with* treatment. Vaccinate your animals, y'all! (Yes, even the fluffy little house dogs, who now are the most likely dogs to get lepto because they aren't vaccinated!)
After lunch, it was off to the wet lab to get pointers on improving my digital dental radiography technique, learn a new dental nerve block, and how to sharpen dental instruments. The lecturers were Veterinary Technician Specialists in dentistry, which is now something cool you can do with your credentialed veterinary technician career, if you're really into dentistry!
Last lecture I attended was on Hospice and Palliative care. The first part was an intro to the principles of humane end-of-life care, which was a bit boring since I just attended a day-long lecture about that topic a couple weeks ago, but the second half was about pain management in these guys. It was SUPER helpful. Tons of new tricks to take back for our geriatric and terminal patients.
(also, as someone with fibromyalgia, I just have to say allodynia really sucks, and I don't want my patients to have to experience that ever!)
So that was my day yesterday :) Now to go pass out for the rest of today because it was tons of nerdy fun but super exhausting lol
