“A-Zhan,” his brother says, poking his head through the door, “Jingyi is still in detention. Could you make the delivery? It’s the same office you went to yesterday.”
Lan Zhan’s head snaps up. Lan Huan looks almost amused, laughter dancing around the creases of his eyes. Lan Zhan knows this look. He does not like it. “Can’t you go?” he asks, polite. Pleading.
“Ah, I’m afraid not,” Lan Huan says apologetically. “A-Yao is coming by to pick up the garlands for his father’s dinner party. I promised I would be here when he arrived.”
Lan Zhan finishes the bouquet and tucks it into its box a little more forcefully than required. “All right.”
He is jealous. He doesn’t want to admit it — doesn’t even want to think about it — but he’s jealous. Wei Ying is clearly very popular, in multiple senses of the word. Each bouquet is from a different person: evidence of multiple partners, remnants of successful dates and hookups and dalliances. It’s not surprising, really — Wei Ying is dazzling, a burning sunspot in a black hole; who wouldn’t send a man like that flowers? — but it fills Lan Zhan with a dull ache all the same. He wants that. He wants to take Wei Ying to dinner, buy him the most expensive wine, watch the spots of color rising on Wei Ying’s cheeks. He wants to take Wei Ying back to his apartment and touch him and kiss him until he’s flushed more, flushed everywhere.
For now there is only this: bouquets of flowers, slices of summer afternoons.
“Who are you?” Wei Ying asks, inanely, like an idiot.
The man does not bother to answer this question. “I have other deliveries to make,” he says. “Would you mind taking the flowers?”
“Oh,” Wei Ying says again. He takes the flowers. “Thank you. Are you part of the special delivery package?”
The man’s perfect eyebrows furrow slightly. “I’m sorry?”
“The delivery package,” Wei Ying says. He puts on his best flirtatious smile. He’s been told that he is very good at smiling like that. “You know, like a bonus. I’ve never met a delivery person who is prettier than his flowers.”
(Or: Lan Zhan is a florist and Wei Ying is the guy who keeps getting things delivered to him.)
Illustration #9 : As Ever (Still) - Modern AU Impromptu Lyricist University Student Hangguang-jun, Lan Wangji
Also, the one where Hangguang-jun is an introverted business major and music club member that's very very low-key despite of his relatively popular student council president of an older brother, the affluence of his family name, and his undeniably good looks. College life for Lan Wangji went swimmingly, that is, until he finds himself involved with the University's local band of misfits: The Anarchy of Yiling.
A rather quirky bunch, The Anarchy is composed of the conniving cassanova, Wei Wuxian as the lead guitarist and sub vocalist; the unrelenting hopeless romantic, Jiang Cheng as the drummer; the notoriously helpless Nie Huaisang as the pianist with an exemplary eye for beauty; and most unexpected by the Twin Jades, GusuLan's very own Art Program's University scholar, Li Yuen as the lead singer and bassist-
It was autumn when both him and his older brother had gone home after studying abroad, autumn when he was trailing behind his xiongzhang and admiring their university's annual art exhibit, autumn when he had seen that portrait of his from an entire lifetime that had long since passed-
Along with the crisp autumn leaves of that year, the snipped thread of paled red that hung loose around his finger gained the vibrance loaned onto the canvass before him that bled the blues and whites of his previous life as the tragic gentry with a heart thrice lost to cruel fate.
In this one he finds her, a struggling young adult knee-deep in student loans; lively despite her circumstances, burning with passion and in this one he helps her still albeit cautiously, more through his brother than anything else.
At least until Lan Xichen took the liberty of introducing them, and then Lan Wangji learns of her questionable relationship with Wei Wuxian that dubbed both as Yiling's Bonnie and Clyde and suddenly he learned to speak a different language, suddenly he knew how to sing, and this time as he had done before- he writes her a song.
Still a WIP, planning to make a flat color and a fully rendered version of this art.
Also the HC is still pretty messy right now and I frankly don't know if I'll ever get to fixing it but I thought I might as well get it out there instead of losing it along the way.
Just to clear things up, this is an OC-insert HC but feel free to treat it as you wish- a Wangxian HC or a self-insert one, whatever floats your boat.
A little late, but post-op sucked real bad yesterday.

@gusuazure 𝐋𝐄𝐅𝐓 𝐀 𝐕𝐎𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐈𝐋: The second Jade's arms enclosed around his husband's waist. Before lowering his head down, placing a butterfly kiss upon his pale flesh. "Wei Ying," whispered the man, his voice rich with affection and devotion for this one person. "Dinner time," mused the man once more, eyeing the scrolls on the table top. Before gently pulling that slender frame back into his chest. "Eat, and we'll see the bunnies before rest."

The warmth he felt from those strong arms wrapping around his waist brought such softened expression to his features. It almost felt like a dream sometimes, the way he woke everyday and Lan Wangji's was there lying next to him. Going throughout his day and hearing his husbands voice filling the air, lovingly saying his name, never ever getting tired of it on his lips. It was everything, the way it made his heart jump in his chest. That feeling, as apparent as it when he first laid eyes on him, it never became ordinary or familiar. His love forever flourishing and growing, falling more and more for him everyday.
His hands gently let the scrolls roll across the table and he leaned back into his husband’s touch, his hands moving to rest now over his own. The kiss bringing out a joyful hum as he reaches for Lan Zhan’s hand. ‘Lan Zhan’ he smiles mischievously, bringing his hand to his lips, kissing each finger sweetly. ‘ It seems I’ve skipped dinner and have gone straight to dessert~’ he can’t help but tease before placing one more kiss to his fingertips and looked up at him, smiling playfully. ‘ Okay, let’s go eat. We don’t want to keep our friends waiting~ ’

While I do sometimes want to write fics where Wei Wuxian calls out everyone on their horrible, terrible treatment of him, I won't do it, because, for me, it is a great, great disservice to his character. Wei Wuxian, is a kind, brilliant man, who lives by the words his mother told him, in the few memories he has of her. "remember the things others do for you, not the things you do for others. Only when people don’t hold so much in their hearts would they finally feel free."
Only when people don’t hold so much in their hearts would they finally feel free.
Wei Wuxian choosing to let go of all the horrors inflicted upon him in his past life takes great courage and is no simple thing. His gentleness, his kindness, is something he chose and letting go of the hurts others caused him is him being an incredibly compassionate character. Especially so, because in the entirety of the book, we see people blame their traumas for their actions.
Wei Wuxian is kind and inexplicably good, and I will not take that from him, no matter how much I want him to murder every one of those pretentious, entitled bastards.
