Summary: The Lost Turnabout case. Phoenix loses his memory. What if Miles Edgeworth was there? Wright x Edgeworth but they aren’t a couple. Just mutual affection.
“Wright! Wright, wake up. Are you okay?”
Wright moans. God, his head hurts. His eyes are tightly shut but he can feel a hand holding his head. He blinks his eyes open. Everything is so foggy. Above him is a man with silver hair flowing down over his face. He looks worried. Wright felt a soft pang in his chest and the immediate need to reassure him.
He cradled the man’s face and the man’s eyes widened. “I’m alright. My head just hurts.”
The man’s eyebrows furrowed as he scowled. “Then get up off the floor, you have to be in court in ten minutes.” Wright could still tell he was worried as he helped him up. Or maybe mad that he made him so worried..
“Court? Am I on trial?”
The man almost dropped him. “WHAT?? Of course not, you’re a defense attorney. It’s Ms. Byrde that’s on trial.”
“Wright! How badly did you hit your head? Ms. Byrde is your client. She’s on trial for murdering a police officer.”
“WHAT?? She murdered a police officer!?”
“T..Bu..You...OBVIOUSLY SHE’S INNOCENT! OR..I mean..You think she’s innocent. That’s why you took the case. You always…”
“Do..Do you know me?” Wright guessed that would make sense. His concern went beyond a regular passerby. And he seemed to know so much about him.
“Wright...What is my name?”
“Oh, you don’t know either? Do you think we both have amnesia? What a weird coincidence.”
“WRIGHT!” He looked like he was about to pop a vein. The man pinched the bridge of his nose and gritted his teeth. “I know who I am!”
“Oh…” Wright felt disappointed. To think he met someone in the same boat as him...but wait. If the guy remembers who he is and seems to know him as well then he could help him!
“Who am I?”
The man sighed. “Your name is Phoenix Wright. You’re a defense attorney as I told you. And you have to be in court soon. Look, your defendant’s already here.”
“Goooood morning!” said a woman’s voice. A woman with short brown hair and glasses wearing what he thought to be a police uniform stood before him. She saluted him, standing as tall and straight as she could.
“What’s wrong? You don’t look well!”
The man spoke up. “I’m afraid he has amnesia. He can’t even remember who I am.”
“WWHHAATT?” said the girl. “But you’re the famous demon prosecutor, his greatest rival, Miles Edgeworth!”
Huh? Rival? Demon? Phoenix’s head still hurts.
“You can’t go in there. You’re unwell. If you say or do the wrong thing, you could make everything worse.” said Miles Edgeworth.
“But all the other lawyers had laughed me off! No one else will take this case! How am I supposed to find another lawyer in less than ten minutes?” Ms. Byrde asked.
“Are you sure you guys have the right person?” Phoenix asked.
“Definitely,” they said simultaneously.
“The trial will begin shortly,” called the Bailiff. “Will the defendant and her lawyer please proceed to the courtroom immediately!”
This is bad.
“The trial’s about to start.” Ms. Byrde said. “I’m counting on you in there, OK?”
“HUH? But-” Phoenix said
“WAIT?” Miles said
She grabbed his arm and forced him inside with Miles Edgeworth following behind.
“You did surprisingly well given you couldn’t remember a thing, Wright.” said Miles Edgeworth during recess. “If I didn’t know better, I would think you didn’t know what you were doing most of the time.”
“Ha ha, yeah.” Why did that make Phoenix feel strangely nervous?
“You’re not done yet though. Payne pulled out a witness at the last second. Reminds me of something you would do,” he said with a small, barely there smile.
“Really?” Phoenix asked.
“Yes. You’ll remember soon enough...hopefully.”
“Are we really rivals? I don’t know why but it doesn’t… feel? Like it?”
“We are sort of...close, yes. But we are also rivals in the courtroom. I’m a prosecutor, you see. I try to put criminals in jail. You try to prove people innocent.”
“Ah. So we’re close, you say.”
Miles scowled. “Don’t make me say it again Also, stop-”
“... …. Never mind.”
“I-I can’t believe it. You managed to win a trial having completely lost your memory.” Miles said. He looked almost faint. Guess he was really worried.
“Well, I gained some of my memory back in the middle of the trial.”
“So do you...remember me now?”
“... …. OH! YOU-You’re the reason I’m an attorney!”
Phoenix could have sworn Edgeworth looked relieved. But the relieved look quickly faded to his usual scowl.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have important business to attend to.”
THE END. Thanks for reading :)
