this perfect drawing by @this-is-what-you-think-it-is got me thinking again about something i was thinking about before which is what an MVP okudera is. Like hes out in the woods in the middle of the night tracking yama-oroshi, which means that unless he got woken up by a roar or something, hes probably been out on the mountain since the daytime. but in any case he’s lost at least SOME sleep. And he comes across this huge passed out 200lb+ convict lying in the snow, and without even hesitating for more than a second hes like ‘aight ill take care of him” and PICKS HIM UP and carries him all the way home.
Later saejima wakes up, and since he goes outside shortly after, we know that it’s daytime. that means that hours have passed. and this is when okudera returns, still with his gun on him and attired for hunting. so either okduera picked saejima up so high up on the mountain that it took all night to get back (and he ran a brief errand, with his gun on him, after tucking saejima into bed I guess?), or okudera dropped saejima off at his house, and went back out to pursue yama-oroshi before giving up and coming back.
so saejima wakes up, eats some stew, and then he’s like wheres baba-chan? my buddy is still out on the mountain and I have to go save him.
and okudera volunteers to go instead.
like dag. okudera’s probably been awake for 24 hours or more by the time saejima finds him up there, and who knows how far hes carried baba. and this is AFTER he carried saejima all the way down from the mountain, and did something else in between heading back out for baba. no wonder okudera gets injured by yama-oroshi.
and all he has to say about it: “Got careless. I’m getting old.”
and THEN, while bleeding from a side wound, he holds yama-oroshi off while saejima brings baba safely down from the mountain.
what an absolute king. okudera for yakuza MVP 2k21.
