Born on the day of love with a celebrity tattoo artist as a father and a supermodel mother, Rose Lockett had no time to be conventional. Growing up spoiled, you learn a lot of things. The most important thing being that people only love for your money. Or maybe that’s just Rose’s mother getting into her head.
From a young age, Rose was always a bit mischievous. She was the kind you’d often find in detention or skipping class in order to start some trouble. She was young and dumb and also just wanted to be liked. Growing up in Los Angeles was eat or be eaten and Rose was a hungry girl. So she did what she wanted when she wanted. She formed a psychedelic rock band with some fellow classmates, got tattoos and piercings, ran away when she wanted, spent money on material things, and more.
By some miracle, she grew into a wise young woman. She was smart, articulate, and an all-around cool girl. Growing up with grace never did quite aid in shedding her intimidating and promiscuous aura, but it certainly helped lessen the blow upon meeting new people who were once skeptical of her as a person. By the time she was 21, she began making a name for herself. She skips out on going to college and decides to pursue a career in music with her band, Lost Yesterday. They record an EP independently and get out there with the help of Rose’s famous and obnoxiously rich parents. It’s not long before they’re playing shows to small, enthusiastic crowds which grew into much louder and much rowdier crowds in no time.
While on the road, Rose had taken a liking to the band’s drummer, Jon Garcia, whom she had known since middle school. He was free-spirited like her and might have been her first brush with love. Long story short, Jon was the first to succumb to band life, dying of an overdose at the young age of 25, all while in the midst of an intense love affair with our very own Rose Lockett.
To put it simply, Rose has never really been in the same since her boyfriend’s death. So much so that the band broke up, despite becoming wildly successful. Rose simply felt like they couldn’t continue without Jon’s pivotal role in the group. She also was withholding her own grief, unable to handle it properly. Rose, a true nepotism baby spoiled to death from birth without a care in the world, was experiencing her first real tragedy and she wanted it over fast.
Love becomes a bit warped after this. She looks at is like some tainted artifact or a vintage piece of furniture. It becomes a novelty that she can’t quite grasp but has become obsessed with. Soon enough, Rose creates an anonymous blog titled Stupid Cupid where she airs out all her grievances with life, love, and lust in a way nobody has before. She cites the death of her boyfriend in profound but unpretentious prose, expresses her deeper feelings without a hint of reluctance, and even discusses the affairs of famous socialites, neighbors, and other celebrities that she’s come to know. It’s not long before people put two and two together and come to realize that the anonymous person behind Stupid Cupid was, in fact, Rose Lockett. Though this doesn’t do much harm to her. It actually boosts her status and Stupid Cupid becomes a sensation overnight. Messages and emails flood in from readers describing their own experiences with love and everything in between.
Suddenly and all at once, Rose is running the most popular love and gossip blog on the internet and it just keeps growing. While her rise to fame wasn’t conventional by any means, it certainly felt fitting.
Years go by and Stupid Cupid remains a prominent staple in pop culture. Rose feels accomplished and content for the first time in what feels like forever. She has friends, a job, money, and an amazing life. But like always, this newfound fame gets to Rose’s head in no time. While obtaining a new pep to her step, she adds on a bit of carelessness to her character. She becomes reckless, feeling as though she’s becoming untouchable. To put another long story short, Rose starts having an affair with her best friend’s husband. It’s intense but purely based on sex and desire. Since Rose is still in the public eye, it’s not long before her dirty little secret gets out and tabloids similar to her blog posts on Stupid Cupid begin to arise. They all describe the story of how Rose Lockett, infamous blogger behind Stupid Cupid, is sleeping with her best friend’s husband, and with pictures to prove it. It doesn’t help that her best friend is an actress on the scene. Not well known, but a working actress nonetheless.
Everyone knows of Rose’s mistake, now even her readers and fans. It’s a humiliating chain of events that Rose still hasn’t exactly recovered from. She took a brief break from her blog due to the affair and the endless hounding from the press. She soon returned after about three months, citing new despairs and what’s been happening in her life. Which hasn’t been much, truth be told. She moves from Los Angeles to Catalina, where most know her dirtiest secrets too. But it’s away from the source and a place where Rose can start anew. What Rose makes of herself now, is all up to her.
Rose Lockett is portrayed by Bucky.
